Money Talk: Credit Card Debt

When I was in college, I had a credit card. We all know about this, right? Credit card companies reel in the students with the lure of money and credit for whatever they need. I got into a nasty situation with it, sadly, because I had some things that I needed to pay for. I ended up with a nasty mark on my credit report because of it. It’s not a good thing, really, but I screwed up and that’s all there is to it.

What I think needs to happen is that colleges need to offer some sort of Credit counseling for incoming freshmen so that they don’t end up in a situation with thousands of dollars worth of credit card debt to pay off along with their educational expenses. With the economy being as crappy as it is, the youth of the nation don’t need to hinder themselves.

Everyone needs to be informed and educated to what they will be facing with these pushy credit card companies and their big promises that will cost you in the end. No one needs to start their life with a credit card bill they can’t afford, especially when they’ll have student loan payments to concern themselves with. Educate yourself, educate your children, don’t let them ruin their credit before they ever get a fair start.
