Sports Speak: De La Hoya-Mayweather Boxing

Saturday, April 5th, 2008

Okay, I am not a real big boxing fan, but there is so much hype over an upcoming match that it’s not even funny. Most people already know about the May 5, 2007 match between Floyd Mayweather and Oscar De La Hoya. It was the single most lucrative boxing match in history, bringing in over $120 Million in revenue.

Not just that, the tickets for the first match sold out three hours after they went on sale, shattering the record for ticket revenue set by the Holyfield/Lewis fight in 1999. If that wasn’t enough, there was plenty of controversy surrounding the match, when it came to Mayweather’s estranged father training De La Hoya for the fight. It never really came to be a problem, since Mayweather Sr demanded a large sum of money that De La Hoya was not willing to pay for a trainer.

If that wasn’t enough drama for the fight, the fight itself was worth the watch, even the large buildup put out by HBO prior to the fight that were aired in the weeks prior to the fight. The fight even came down to the final judges scores to determine the winner with two judges having Mayweather the winner and one for De La Hoya.

This is definitely a rematch that is worth keeping an eye on. If you’re going to be in Las Vegas on September 20th, 2008 and you love boxing, look into getting yourself the De La Hoya/Mayweather tickets as soon as you can.

Spring Fever: Baseball

Sunday, March 30th, 2008

It’s baseball season again. YAY! I really do like Baseball, even though I don’t watch it or follow it as closely as I used to. I think I should rectify that this year and make some baseball picks for the season. I used to follow baseball closely enough that I could pick blind, but now, I don’t think I could.

If you’re a baseball fan, heck even if you’re a sports fan of any sort, you should go check out Addict Sports. You can share your love of sports with others who love sports as much as you do. Baseball, Football, Basketball and Hockey are the major sports you can find there and you can even join in their fantasy games. It’s a lot of fun for sports fans of any age.

Car Talk: NASCAR Comes To A Road Near You

Sunday, January 27th, 2008

You can always tell who the NASCAR fans on the road are. You either see their vehicle painted in the color scheme of their favorite driver or they have a car spoiler that looks like the rear spoiler on a stock car.

Think I’m kidding? I’m not kidding. I’ve seen it first hand, more than once. Living near a NASCAR track, you see a lot of odd things when it’s time for the local race. Even when it’s not race fever in the area, you’ll still see it. Someone has a van that has Dale Earnhardt’s #3 painted on it.

It’s funny to see what fanatics will do to celebrate their favorites, no matter the sport of choice.

Golfer’s Paradise

Sunday, December 16th, 2007

I don’t know about you, but I never knew that there was a whole line of Nike golf apparel and equipment. I knew there were shoes, but I didn’t realize that there were clubs too. For a golfer who is a fan of Nike products, this would be a golfer’s paradise.

It’s even a great way of making their Christmas dreams come true. No better way to make a golfer happy than with new clubs from a company that they already love.
