Is it work..

Is it really work if you truly love your job? I think that I’m a rare exception to the norm when it comes to having a job. I have one of the best jobs in the world and it doesn’t really seem like work.

I don’t think that I’d want to change anything about my job, especially since I set my own schedules, work when I’m available. I get asked to do a lot of features, which still surprises me every time.

I seriously love my job.

On a different bent..

A quickie before I go to bed.. I didn’t realize just how many specialized job search websites there are these days. I know there is Monster Jobs and stuff like that, but I didn’t realize that there was a site specific for Philadelphia job search.

It seems logical, I suppose, but it’s weird. I figured most people who want stuff specific to their city, they’d go with the classifieds of the papper. But then again, with the number of people who apply for jobs online, it does make sense.

Oh well. Guess I’ll sleep now.

‘Get A Real Job’

I keep thinking that I need to get a real job. I write, I make money doing it. I love what I do, too. To me, that is a real job. A lot of people don’t see it the same way though. They think that because I get to sit and home and write whatever floats my boat, it’s not a real job.

So what? I need to have some sort of formal sales training in order to sell my writing? I need to go out and kill myself working for someone else? I don’t really think so. I’m not good as someone’s underling. I’m not good at strict environments, I never have been. I’m the kind of girl who likes to work late at night, when it’s quiet, be all by myself.

So really, is working as a freelance writer not a real job? As those who make more money than you do and I bet they say yes.

Random Thoughts On Working

So many times, I wonder what I’m doing with my life. I wonder where I went wrong and why I’m not making more of the education that I have. I ask myself what happened, when did it change that I didn’t want to go out and work with other people, when did I become such a hermit. I love my choice of life, though. I enjoy being able to work from home and not have to worry about dealing with other people.

But, what I wonder is why? Why haven’t I ever really put forth effort into one of the many small business opportunities that I’ve had in the past? Am I afraid of failing? You bet. But for every failure, there has to be a success. You learn and grow from each failure. But I still do not want to fail. I failed at so many things growing up that I can’t do it again.

And there-in lies my problem. I fear being the failure that I was always told I’d be. Yet, I feel like I’m a failure because I’m sitting here at home while my husband works every day.

Business: Commercial Real Estate

Many many times, I’ve thought about starting my own business. What kind of business? That’s where the problem always hits. I could do so many things that it’s not even funny. I have a lot of skills and a lot of ideas, but I really can’t pin anything down. I’ve even looked at commercial real estate a few times and gone, “Hey, I could so rent that place and open a tax prep business. Or various other things. One thing I had thought about was somewhere that people could bring things in, say “Will you post this on ebay?” and do that for people. There is/was one in the area, but I don’t think it went over well. I think there is still, but you never hear about it any more.

So yeah, I’ve seriously considered opening a business, but I don’t know what I’d do. What would you do?

Random Thoughts: Corporate Sucktitude

I wrote a while back about why I don’t like working for other people. One of the reasons is the last corporation I worked for was notorious for hiring on a bunch of new hires then pulling some stupid corporate performance management crap and firing them right at the end of their ninety day period. They always made up some stupid excuse, such as bad performance reviews, to do it. Something you can’t fight against, then your file gets sealed. I think that the worse of it, though, was that they were working me 12 hour days, 4 days a week, Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday. A lot of times, I would work 5 12′s, and the day I was fired, I was on day 6. Two days before I hit the ninety mark. I knew they were doing evaluations that morning, since I had seen the girls on either side of me go into “The Office” and come out upset.

When I was called in, I figured what was going to happen. I had already gotten my stuff together so that I could just toss it in my bag, but yeah. I went into “The Office” and was told, by the floor manager who was never around during the 90 days, that my error rate was too high during the period I was monitored. Oddly enough, it was the day I got all the screwed up batches. Conspiracy? Sure. Corporate crap? Definitely.
