One Night Only! WarGames Returns To The Big Screen

Tuesday, July 15th, 2008

Temp-image_1_1

I don’t remember much about movies in the 1980’s other than E.T. since I was quite young and didn’t get to see very many movies. E.T was the first movie that I got to see in a theater, but I’ve seen a lot of 1980’s on DVD and one of that I keep planning to see, but never get around to is WarGames. The thing is, I don’t have to see it on DVD, I can wait until the 25th anniversary return to theaters to see it.

This is a ONE NIGHT ONLY event on July 24th, so you only get one chance of seeing the original on the big screen. And not only do you get to see the original, but you also get a sneak peek at the sequel, WarGames: The Dead Code, and never before seen Interviews. If you loved WarGames in the 80’s or just want to see it on the big screen, then get your tickets today, since it’s only in select theaters.

Music, It’s A Good Thing

Thursday, April 17th, 2008

Everyone talks about what kind of stereo you need to have to have the best sound. You hear that you should have a Bose home theater for great sound so often, but I don’t really thing that’s true. Yes, it’s a great system, yes it’s worth the money that it costs. But, it’s not worth the expense for someone like me, who listens to music on the computer only. Me, I just need a set of good computer speakers and headphones and I’m good.

What about you? Do you need an expensive stereo?

Celebrity Thoughts: Rehab

Thursday, April 17th, 2008

I loved the show Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew, I just wish that more of the celebrities would learn that 30 days isn’t enough time in drug rehab no matter how casual of a user they are. It seems like at least once a week, a new celebrity is going into rehab. When they come out 30 days later, they go right back to it. At least in most cases. Too bad more of the Celebrity Rehab cast didn’t set the example that some have.

HD Radio and iTunes

Friday, April 4th, 2008

Everything seems to be going HD lately. Or that’s what it feels like. First it was high definition television, now it’s high definition radio that’s the latest trend. All you need is a new stereo for your car. You get all your same great radio stations, plus you get new radio stations without a subscription fee.

What does this have to do with iTunes? With iTunes Tagging you can hit the tag button on your new stereo and it sends the song information to your iPod so that you can keep track of songs that you want for later. I know that I’ve often heard songs on the radio and wished I could remember them later. Well, having an iTunes Tagging enabled radio and an iPod, you’ll never have to fight to find the song again.

This is a fantastic feature for anyone who loves music, but has a bit of a memory sieve when it comes to remembering titles and artists. Isn’t it time you upgraded your car stereo?

Music Websites: RapArtists.Com

Tuesday, March 25th, 2008

Everyone who knows me, knows I love music. Well now there’s a great new website for those of us who love rap music. rap Artists is a site that lists new releases and new rap artists, giving you a heads up on what’s new and upcoming.

As someone who loves rap music, I love this new site. I can keep up with some of my favorite artists like Flo Rida. I can see what the hottest songs are currently and find the ones I’ve never heard before. It’s definitely a great resource for music lovers. One that I’m quite glad exists now.

Take a glance and see what you think of it.

So those are my idol thoughts for the season. I will likely not be blogging it like I did last season because I just really don’t feel that into it.

Online Casino Review: 32Vegas

Wednesday, March 5th, 2008

We’ve all seen the ads fro the latest and greatest online casino right? Personally I don’t care for them because of the affects of gambling on a person, both mentally and financially. That’s not to say that they’re all bad, and that there are people who can gamble without a problem.

32Vegas is one of the rare casino sites that isn’t completely cluttered with advertisements and pop-ups. There is a small one that pops up to allow you to download the software while exploring the site, but you can close it and browse the casino games such as blackjack, roulette, video poker, slots and craps. Along with the popular, common casino games, 32Vegas has other special games as well.

32Vegas has the look and feel of a vegas casino without ever leaving your own home. And much like a vegas casino, they offer you comp points for every dollar spent, among the other special promotions that they run based on your first deposit and others that you bring to the site. And, if you don’t want to play for real money, you can play their games just for fun.

Unlike most online casinos, 32Vegas will not let you register if you live in an area where it is illegal, saving a person from having to worry about the legality of their online gaming. But one word of advice, be wise about your gambling. Know your limits, stick to your limits. Walk away when you hit your limits.

Travel Thoughts: Branson

Monday, February 18th, 2008

One of the places that I breezed through when I was traveling from New York to Las Vegas was Branson, Missouri. We were on the outskirts of the city, but I’ve always wanted to go back and properly explore.

One of the reasons that I wanted to go there was because Branson is the new home to Country Music. Nashville will always be the major hub, but Branson is where a lot of the stars have chosen to make their new home. For instance, the Roy Rogers/Dale Evans Museum is in Branson.

There’s also Silver Dollar City, where you can step back in time to see how people lived in the Ozark Mountains in the 1800’s. Learn what it was like to live a much simpler life and learn about history as well. But if that isn’t what you’re interested, there are plenty of museums, parks and shopping.

The main draw for me, though, is the music. Being able to see people like Buck Trent or Bill Medley or even Bobby Vinton is more appealing to me. For me, a lover of older country music, Branson is like paradise and I would love to spend a week there taking in the different shows.

Rodeo in Las Vegas? Seriously?

Friday, February 1st, 2008

Okay, so everyone has this view of Las Vegas being casinos and gambling and well, it’s not named Sin City for no reason right? But is that all that Vegas has to offer? If you had asked me eight years ago, I would have told you yes, that’s it. But, I went there to meet my now husband and boy was I in for a shock. Las Vegas isn’t all the glitz and glamour, there’s a lot of things going on that you never hear about.

One of the things that I learned quickly was that there is a little bit of everything going on in Las Vegas, including professional bull riding. You’d think that you’d only see that in the Midwest or southwest, right? Places like Oklahoma and Texas, but Las Vegas is actually the home to National Finals Rodeo and has been since 1985. In that time, the sport of professional bull riding has grown in popularity and several records have been set right there in Las Vegas. In fact, just last year, Trevor Brazile become the PRCA’s first triple crown winner since 1983.

If you’re visiting Las Vegas and like professional bull riding, then you should check into getting National Rodeo Finals tickets and see for yourself that it’s not just some big spectacle. I know that if I were to go back to Las Vegas, that would be one of the first things that I checked into, since I didn’t have the opportunity when I lived there. I’m a country girl at heart and have always loved watching bull riding. I’d never consider doing it, but watching is fun.

Netflix to deliver movies directly to TV

Thursday, January 3rd, 2008

DVD-by-mail service Netflix Inc. will begin delivering movies and other programming directly to televisions later this year through a set-top box that will pipe entertainment over a high-speed Internet connection.

The set-top box, to be made by LG Electronics Inc. as part of a partnership announced late Wednesday, is designed to broaden the appeal of a year-old streaming service that Netflix provides to its 7 million subscribers at no additional charge.

LG Electronics didn’t reveal how much the set-top box will cost when it hits the market in the summer or early autumn. Similar devices made by Apple Inc. and Vudu Inc. cost $299 to $399.

A bevy of other gadgets designed to bring more digital entertainment into living rooms is expected to be unveiled next week at a major consumer electronics show in Las Vegas.

Netflix’s streaming service is the cornerstone of the Los Gatos-based company’s strategy to retain and attract customers as technology makes it easier to rent and buy movies within a few minutes instead of waiting for them to be delivered through the mail.

Although Netflix says its subscribers have watched more than 10 million movies and TV episodes through its “Watch Instantly” option so far, the streaming service has been too constraining for many subscribers.

That’s because all the streaming service’s programming must be watched on a personal computer, unless the viewer knows how to link a high-speed Internet connection into a TV monitor.

The set-top box is supposed to serve as a bridge that will enable just about anyone with a high-speed Internet connection to plug in a few wires so they will be able to access Netflix’s Watch Instantly feature on their TVs.

Subscribers will still need to use a computer to pick out which programs they’re interested in streaming. The selections, culled from more than 6,000 titles available in streaming library, will then show up on the TV screen.

“It’s going to be very slick and easy,” said Reed Hastings, Netflix’s chief executive officer. “We want the TV experience to be very relaxing and not like visiting a Web site.”

Depending on which subscription plan they have, Netflix customers can watch anywhere from five to 48 hours of programming through the streaming service each month at no extra cost.

The LG Electronics alliance is just the first of several partnerships Netflix hopes to strike this year to extend its delivery options beyond the mail. Although he wouldn’t provide specifics, Hastings listed video game consoles and high-definition DVD players as other potential channels for Netflix.

“We want to see 100 Netflix-capable devices on the market,” Hastings said.

With more than 90,000 titles available in its DVD library, delivering movies through the mail is expected to remain Netflix’s primary money maker for years to come.

Nevertheless, Netflix has spent about $40 million on the development of its streaming service during the past year.

The financial commitment hasn’t been enough to convince many investors that Netflix will be able to survive a widely anticipated shift that that will turn DVDs into an afterthought as digital downloading proliferates.

The persisting worries are one of the biggest reasons that Netflix’s stock price remains roughly 30 percent below its highs of nearly four years ago, even though the company has become more profitable while signing up millions of new subscribers since then. Netflix shares fell 27 cents Wednesday to finish at $26.35.

Netflix’s growth tapered off last year amid tougher competition from Blockbuster Inc., but Blockbuster recently signaled it’s backing off in the battle by raising the prices of several popular plans.

One of Netflix’s most formidable threats yet may be looming just around the corner, with Apple reportedly preparing to launch an online movie rental service that is supposed to include titles from News Corp.’s Twentieth Century Fox and Walt Disney Co.

Apple so far hasn’t commented on the reports, which have predicted a formal announcement will be made at the Cupertino-based company’s Macworld conference later this month.

An online movie rental service could give more people a reason to buy Apple’s device for delivering programming to TVs. The gadget, called Apple TV, so far hasn’t taken off like the company’s wildly popular iPod and iPhone. Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster estimates about 1.8 million Apple TV devices had been sold through 2007, but he expects another 2.9 million units to ship this year.

“If (Apple) does what has been reported, they will reach a very big market,” Hastings said. “But the addition of Apple to the rental market isn’t causing us to lose any sleep.”
