What I Did Yesterday

Wednesday, December 17th, 2008

The last two days have been a bit crazy, so lets play a little bit of Catch-Up. We’ll see how far we get. ;) Monday, Rob had a dental appointment at 8:30am in a location I wasn’t quite sure of how to get to. Google Earth gave me a fairly good idea of how to get there, but we needed to make sure there was enough time to get there and not be late. So, we got up at OMGIT’SEARLY (6am) so that we could eat breakfast and I could have coffee to take. We headed out and made it with quite a bit of time to spare, which isn’t a bad thing unless your doctor is perpetually late.

Now, this appointment was for yet another part of Rob’s insane amount of dental work, so it’s not the first visit or just a follow up. Long story short is that they’re pulling all of his teeth, anywhere from 3 to 5 at a time. Because of the way his insurance is set up, it’s being done through the County Health Mobile Dental, so each appointment is at a different location. Now, the dentist is quite good, so I will not complain about him for his dental work, HOWEVER I will complain because his appointments have been at at 8 or 8:30, consistently. The problem is, however, the dentist usually shows up around oh… I’d have to venture to say 8:45 on average. I will give him credit, he’s not a slow dentist by any means, in fact, the second he walks in he gets straight to work and is done in a flash.

A little back story on the Mobile Dental Van - The purpose is to go to the different schools around the county and do low-cost or free dental work for the children and the communities. They try to do all the adults prior to 9am, then students from 9am until noon, then adults from noon until 3. From 3 until 5, they do both. It works out so that adults can be seen before work, during lunch and after work, where as children are during the morning hour before lunch or recess with the school nurse, and then after school with their parents. The flaw, however, is that, invariably, Rob is still in the chair when they bring the first batch of kids in to be seen. Not exactly a good thing when you have that many people in a small space.

Christmas 009So yeah, I just realized I’d already posted about Monday. Guess I was sleep-posting Monday night. Onward to Yesterday. *laugh* Yesterday had a later start, thankfully. Rob had a 1pm appointment with the Ophthalmologist to see if he was finally done with his eye problems, so we headed out a bit before noon so we could get some lunch, since I’m a twit and didn’t think ahead. His appointment went well and he is officially free of that doctor! Hopefully for good this time. We headed to the store to pick up some baking supplies, then finished the good majority of our Christmas shopping. The only thing that needs to be purchased is a Game Stop card for my oldest nephew and something for my mother, since the slippers I bought yesterday were way too big. Yes I let her try them on to see, mostly because she can’t wear overly squishy slippers and I was worried about them being too big.

After we did our shopping, we went to the library for a bit so that I could pick up the book I had requested, plus I wanted to check my accounts so I knew how much money we had left so that I didn’t overspend and break myself. After we did that, we headed off to get some dinner and waste a bit of time before we went to see Twilight. It was a lovely, leisurely day, no rushing here and there. I quite enjoyed it, until we came out of the movie theater and the car was covered with snow. It wasn’t a ton, but it was enough that it had to be brushed clean first. We made it home easily though, so it wasn’t bad.

I’d write more, but I started this post around 10 hours ago and got sidetracked, repeatedly. I’ll write about Twilight later.

Holy Gawd

Today was… not horrible. I really can’t even complain about getting up at 6am, since I actually had coffee waiting for me when I got up. I was actually awake before we left the house. Usually it takes me at least half of the morning to wake up when it’s that damn early. Why was I awake that early? Rob had a dental appointment at 8:30am and was nearly an hour away. Yeah, not fun, but it wasn’t as bad as I expected, since it was somewhere I’d never been. Now he’s done til February.

After his appointment, we went to see a friend so that I could drop off her gift. I couldn’t stay, since Rob was in complete misery and we had to get back home so Mom could go to her appointment. I also had to make a stop at the grocery store to pick up a prime rib roast for Christmas dinner. Rare indulgence, but it’ll be so good. We got home with about an hour for Rob to relax before having to leave again.

Me, I stayed home. I was waiting for a package in the mail. Of course, she didn’t come with the mail while I was sitting in the living room. No, that’d be too freaking easy. Mom brought the package in when they came in, so she must have shown up with the mail while I was in the bathroom. Go figure! Oh well, I’m not the proud owner of a knitting loom. We’ll see if I can get the hang of it and make anything with it. AFTER I finish my crocheting. I’m still not done with the two blankets that I wanted to get shipped before Christmas.

Anyway, I started this post hours ago, so I’m going to bed. Clickie my eggs?

Good, Bad, Meh

Good:
* We won the football game Friday night! We actually won homecoming for a change. It was a cold game, but it was a great night. Youth cheerleaders were cute but slightly obnoxious. They’ll be better as they grow up more and learn to cheer and not just *scream* the cheers. The Pep Band was quiet for the most part. They played, but the fans in the other set of home bleachers could not hear them. The crowd was fairly sedate for the most part, until the refs started making absolutely horrible calls. They need to have some better organization to the events. People left before the fireworks, and they were worth staying for. The human tunnel was awesome. It went from the 10 yard line across the 50 and ended around the 45 yard line on the other side. It was really nice that they honored the senior parents as well. It was a great night overall, even if it took me until well after bedtime to finally get warm. Next Friday is the first playoff game. It’s an away game, but close enough that we could drive to it if we want. I don’t know yet if we will. It will all depend on just how cold it is.

* I got a new bread maker earlier this week. Yes, I know my other one was only 10 months old. However, no matter what I tried in it, I made ONE loaf of edible bread and when I tried the recipe a second time, it turned out like crap. Plus, the new one makes long loaves that look like what homemade bread SHOULD look like. Ya know, like Mom used to make in the oven and you could smell throughout the house. I made my first batch of bread the day it came and it turned out MUCH better. I did have a problem with not using the proper flour. Must use bread machine flour. The bread did, however, come out edible, which is more than I can say for the last attempt at homemade bread. I gave the old maker to a woman who uses one just to make her dough and had recently lost everything in a fire.

* Speaking of losing everything, one of Rob’s co-workers lost everything this summer in a fire, no insurance either because they didn’t know about renters insurance. :( They finally got into a new place after living in a hotel for over a month. We gave them a ton of kitchen stuff. Stuff that we had two or three of or that we just didn’t use any more. It was nice to be able to help a family out who was starting over. It made me feel good, especially since I know they’re using everything that we gave them and it gave them a major head start on being able to cook and eat the way they need to. She’s diabetic and they were living on fast food and hotel food, which isn’t always conducive to diabetic control.

* I made a cake today. It turned out absolutely fantastic. I made the root beer float cake. So yummy. I doubled the whip topping and probably shouldn’t have, it was too rich that way. I’m glad it turned out so well and will be making it in the future with the sugar free root beer like the recipe calls for. I have the fixings for cheesecake, muffins, bread, jams, and all kinds of other baked goods. Yay! I like the chilly weather for that, since it doesn’t make it too hot in my house to bake. ;)

* I’m finally getting a stand mixer. I hate the hand mixer, it’s a pain in my ass and I can never get everything incorporated properly with it and always have to hand stir all batters. So we broke down and ordered a Sunbeam mixer tonight so that it’ll be easier to make the aforementioned goodies.

* DirecTV will be here between Noon and 5pm tomorrow to upgrade our dish system for the HD television in the living room. Knowing my luck, they’ll come during the news or while we’re watching something. Oh well, at least they’re finally coming. I ordered the upgrade nearly a month ago.

Bad:
* Rob has to go to the dentist tomorrow morning, early. I actually have to be awake with the sun. Ew. That’s okay, though. Hopefully the next appointment won’t be in a month. Two weeks between them would be perfect so we can get them the hell done with quicker. We know they’ll take a while, since he’s got a lot of work being done, but this month between means it’ll be well over a year before they’re done with the initial work.

* I think I might be getting sick, or my allergies are all screwed up. I feel icky and my throat is all scratchy. I’ll take a pill soon and knock out for the night and hope it goes away.

Meh:
* I am not particularly happy about something that I learned tonight. It really bugs me quite a bit, to be honest, but I don’t really want to talk about it either because that gives it more life and I don’t want to do that. So just meh.

* I have a ton of tv shows I want to catch up on and they’re all sitting on my computer waiting for me. I dunno when or if I’ll ever get to them.

* I completely gave up on the JH Tax class. I just could not get it to sink into my brain with the time that I had. I missed the exam and completely overslept that day. I’ll try again in the future, when I can dedicate more time to it.

* There’s something else stirring in my brain that I want to post about, but it’s not really something I normally talk about. Meh.

Have a happy Monday, folks

Doctor Update

Saturday, August 30th, 2008

Okay, I know I’m way behind on posting and my ‘to post about‘ list keeps getting longer. I’m sorry, I just haven’t felt up to posting a whole lot lately. I’m going to work on at least this update, though.

I went to the doctor on the 15th for a checkup. I needed new prescriptions and it’d been since April since I’d been in. I went, got yelled at for walking out on the last batch of blood work, got told I needed to have blood drawn the following week. I asked for something to help me sleep and something for my allergies. I got an anti-histamine that is supposed to help with both problems. They work okay for the allergies. They work kind of okay for sleeping.

I had one really violent reaction to them earlier this week because I was fighting off going to sleep after taking it. I had the worse flu-like symptoms, shaking, shivering, burning up. I’ve been fine ever since, but man that was wicked.

Rob is doing well with his diabetes, thankfully. He’s doing great with the change of diet and I’m working on cooking things that are much more diabetic friendly than I have been.

Health is overall at a good level here for now. Thank god.

Odd

Friday, August 15th, 2008

I have a doctor’s appointment this afternoon, I made it last week. The thing is, I normally get a confirmation call 2 days prior to the appointment. It just dawned on me that I didn’t get one this time. I wonder if my appointment isn’t in the system. If that’s the case, I’m going to be super pissed off. I don’t like going over there for no good reason, and that would be one of those situations.

I should have gone to the library this morning to print out my blood sugar listing, but I can’t be bothered doing it, since it’s only a handful of readings and I can easily write them out on a piece of paper. We didn’t need to go to the Valley, so why make a special trip just to print stuff out? It’s a waste of gas and time and gave us a chance to do a load of laundry instead and get it hung out.

I’m slightly cranky this morning, but there’s no real valid reason as to why, outside of the stupid phone ringing at 8am again this morning. There really needs to be a law against calling before at least 10am unless it’s really f’n important. >:| Anyway, I should get some crap done before it’s time for my appointment. Have a happy Friday, folks.

Holy Shit!

Thursday, August 14th, 2008

I only have one thing left on my things to post about list! *faint* I’m shocked that I finally got through the list of stuff. Just in time for me to add new things to it starting tomorrow. ;) Yeah that’s not a joke. Tomorrow and Saturday will be out of touch days for me. It’s going to be crazy busy, in a good way. I should have plenty of pictures Saturday too. :)

I’ve decided that since my 2-3 yr old television is going bad already, I’m going to have to get a new television. This does not make me happy, in a sense, because of the money factor. On the bright side, it will be a flat panel LCD, possibly HD, but I haven’t decided on that just yet.

I should get some stuff done so I’m not totally useless today, even though I want to be. :P Being useless isn’t always a bad thing. *nods sagely*

Screwy

Thursday, August 14th, 2008

For the love of all that is holy, they really need to give Rob the SAME SHIFT ALL WEEK! I mean seriously, two days it’s 4am-1pm or around that, other days it’s been 11am-8pm, tonight was 3pm-11pm, tomorrow is 2pm-10pm. This seriously screws with my dinner planning up. For instance, I’m going to be making what I’d be having for dinner at lunch time so that Rob can get a decent meal before work.

Meal planning is a pain in the ass on days like this, but I do it. Tomorrow I will be making BBQ Chicken Breast on my Panini Grill, Busch’s Grillin’ Beans and *ponder* maybe quick taters. I haven’t decided yet.

I should go to bed, but I’m watching Big Brother: After Dark on Sho2 and after that I’ll watch more Olympic coverage til I fall asleep. I’d do so much better if I could fall asleep when I hit the bed, but I lay and toss and turn. I mentioned that I need to talk to the doctor about it, maybe she can give me something to help. I know it’s not covered by the Walmart plan, but I have a discount card that should make it fairly reasonable, I’d hope.

Anyway, I need to sleep, then get up and be a human in the morning to get work done, so I’m outta here.

Doctor Updates

Friday, August 8th, 2008

Okay, now that the doctor appointments are done for Rob for a month, I’ll post an update on it all. On the 30th, he had a follow up for his eye. The verdict is that it looks a lot better, but not completely gone yet, we’ll see what it looks like in another month. Until then, keep hot packing and taking the antibiotic. No problem! We can handle that.

Tuesday was dual appointment day for him. The first was a dental appointment where-in he had an initial exam and several x-rays done. He did not see the dentist, however, he was seen by the hygienist. That went well, he goes back on the 11th of September to see the actual Dentist and see where it goes from there. Shouldn’t be too bad, since they seem to have a higher level of intelligence than the last one he saw.

Tuesday afternoon, he had to see his regular physician. I’d been monitoring his blood sugar level daily since it was over 200 on 2 different compassions. I printed out the listing at the library and gave it to the nurse for the doctor to look at. His assessment, “You’re diabetic. Want to start the meds today or do the blood work first?” We opted for blood first, that way there wouldn’t be multiple changes when it came in. So Wednesday he went and had blood drawn, was told the results would be back in a week.

Last night, however, the phone rang. Twas the nurse with the results. Rob is now on diabetic medication and cholesterol medication, along with his fluid pill and antibiotic. Sucks to be him! At least we caught the problem now, rather than later.
