Post Holiday Update

Sunday, December 28th, 2008

So, there’s a lot to say, but I’m not sure how much I want to say. I feel incredibly blessed to have so many amazing friends. I want to thank everyone for the lovely cards. :) I didn’t send out cards again this year. Time just got away with me, as did the blahs. Every year around this time, I get a major case of the blahs, especially when it comes time to start shopping.

I will say that the gifts for the nephews were a hit for a change. Eldest actually said.. get this.. THANK YOU for his! We got him a $25 Game Stop gift card and my mother gave him cash, so he had almost enough between the two to get his Gears of War 2 that he wants. Youngest was excited beyond belief that I actually found him and Optimus Prime Transformer, plus he got more Magnetix to add to what Santa got him. I have to say that family day wasn’t horrible this year. Michael was texting with his girlfriend, though, and I’m really surprised that my mother was okay with that, since she hates cell phones. He wasn’t rude about it though, since he had the phone on vibrate mode and kept it quick.

Our Christmas was quiet, we don’t do much in the way of gift exchanges, since we usually get what we want throughout the year. Mom did surprise me, however, with a new floor lamp for the bedroom, since we had taken our lamp to the living room and left it there. :) I like this one much better, since it’s 70″ tall and doesn’t reflect on the monitors at all. She also got us a wireless printer. I’m seriously psyched about this because we haven’t had a working printer in ages. I have one of the big all-in-one printers, but something happened that it wouldn’t print any more. I guess I left a cartridge in it too long. *shrug* It was huge and there was never room to keep it set up all the time.

There’s been some stuff going on the last week that has made me seriously question people, but that’s not fit for this post, so I’m going to say, I hope that everyone had a fabulous holiday.

Domestic Much?

Sunday, November 16th, 2008

What the hell is my deal lately? I’ve been all kinds of kitchen domesticated. In the last month, I’ve made cheesecakes, cookies, muffins, cakes and bread. Today? I made … 2 pizzas and then got the hair brain idea to to use the leftover pumpkin from the last cheesecake to make.. pumpkin bread.

I seriously love my bread maker. I can’t even put into words how much I love it. The sad part? There are so many *bad* reviews for it that at first glance, you wouldn’t want to buy it. You have to play with the recipes a tad sometimes, but I’m not complaining a bit.

I will be making pumpkin cheesecake for Thanksgiving. We’re supposed to go to my sister’s house for dinner. I hope the weather stays decent so that we do go. My nephew turns 18 two days after Thanksgiving. It’ll be the first time we’ve done a family dinner since she got with her current husband and the first that Mom doesn’t have to make.

So yeah, it’s time for me to sleep or something. Two posts in a day? wtf? ;)

Halloween

Friday, June 6th, 2008

What? It’s never too early to mention Halloween! Besides, wouldn’t it be cool to send out Halloween invitations for a summer party? Some people live Halloween every day, so why not have Halloween parties every day? No one ever said that you can’t enjoy a holiday when you feel like it. Halloween, while about a specific date, can be any day you want it to be. A day to honor those who have passed.

Happy New Year

What Not To Buy A Man In My Life

Friday, December 28th, 2007

With Christmas just passing, I did a lot of thinking about gift ideas for men in my life. I have a husband and two nephews to buy for, plus a brother in law. So what do you get for the different men in your life? One of the suggestions that a friend of mine made was a set of cufflinks. Why would you buy cufflinks for a man who doesn’t wear formal dress clothing? You wouldn’t, right? What about for a 17 year old? He’d laugh in your face, right?

I couldn’t understand why someone would suggest that I buy cufflinks for any of the males in my life. Then it dawned on me, they don’t truly understand me and my life. They don’t know me as well as I thought that they did. It’s a sad realization that those I thought were close, aren’t.
